Carla Miller

I am an enrolled member of the Lake Superior Band of Chippewa (Ojibwe); I resided on the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation located in the Midwest Region of Wisconsin. My fondest memories are of growing up in the Northwoods and learning as a young girl to respect the earth and all living things. Being a part of the Zaagi’igan team on the Fond du Lac reservation wild rice restoration project is important to me because gathering wild rice was always a part of my life. Our family gathered and processed it for personal use over the winter months and throughout the year. We also provided for other family members or used it in ceremonies when needed. With the rapid decline and noticeable changes in the environment, the preservation of our natural resources is vital to me. Working on this project to support the effort in restoring this traditional food for generations to come gives me gratification.
