Team SPAW (Salish Pend O’reille Aboriginal Watershed) works with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) of the Flathead Reservation in Montana. The CSKT are passively protecting and actively managing reservation lands to restore native species, benefit biodiversity and enhance cultural values. Projects will center within a mosaic of wetland and grassland habitats formerly managed for cattle grazing and agriculture. Team SPAW interns will have the opportunity to develop research projects on a variety of topics that address habitat conservation goals. Prior projects have focused on ecosystem dynamics at multiple scales involving water quality, soil properties, species interactions, animal-habitat relationships, plant pollination and nutrient cycling.
