Hello! my name is LeAnn Charwood my traditional name is “Asini Ikwe” which means stone woman in the Anishinaabe language. Currently I reside in city of Bemidji with my 14 year old daughter Amanda. I am an enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe which is located in north central Minnesota and is made up of about 9,400 enrolled band members. I am a former blackjack dealer at Seven Clans Casino Red Lake. This past spring I graduated from Leech Lake Tribal College with an AS in Natural Science. Last Summer I participated in the 2015 SLAWR REU with Team Stream where we studied denitrification and assimilation of two wetlands located in an agricultural watershed of southern Minnesota. Much of the REU experience consisted of collecting data which included taking samples of water, sediment, discharge, and dissolved oxygen. Overall the experience is a great way to network with experienced professionals, learn more about the environment and the challenges of sustainable development.
